This intermediate level 3 course takes adult learners through Surah Yusuf to develop their comprehension, make word connections, and learn new reading strategies in the Quran.
In this 12 week course, learners will:
Strengthen their understanding of advanced word derivation & grammar الصرف والنحو
Have a tacit understanding of inflection and verb conjugation التصريف و الإعراب
Discover semantic relationships between ayas and suras
Explore reading strategies to understand ≥ 80% of any passage in the Quran
This course is interactive. It is designed with the learner in mind to build a linguistic intuition using a variety of activities. This active-learner approach is based on the instructor’s +20 years experience in teaching Arabic and expertise in language pedagogy.
Learners can expect to frequently work in pairs or small groups and contribute to engaging discussions in a flipped classroom. While class time is devoted to discussing and expanding your understanding of the language, there will be occasional homework.

About the instructor:
Elijah received a BA in Linguistics, MA in Middle East Studies, and PhD in Linguistics at Indiana University. He moved to the Bay Area in 2012 where he was head of the Arabic program at Santa Clara University and Bayan Islamic Graduate School. Elijah studied closely under Muslim scholars Dr. Yamina Bougenaya, Dr. Ali Mermer, Dr. Zaineb Istrabadi (ra), and Dr. Salman al-Ani.
